Most of my life I have been a writer. I’ve been a pen pal, a poet, a student, a journalist, a PR professional, a short story writer and a writer of non-fiction books.
It’s safe to say I love to write. What I also love is to investigate. I am interested in almost anything or anyone. I tend to find that regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, every person usually has a story to tell, they just don’t always have someone to listen to that story.
On a daily basis I get amazed at how wonderful people’s lives are and I am constantly reminded of how little I know about what is going on in the world around me – both on a macro and micro level.
To me satisfaction is having a person share some tiny detail of their life they’ve never shared with anyone else. It may be a moment of terror, or shame, or joy, or despair. It doesn’t matter. But to be the one that they choose to reveal a little of themselves to is a great privilege.
So far in my life I have met, and listened to, so many different people. Miners, Chief Executives, politicians, Aboriginal Elders, students, strong women, environmentalists, business leaders, brothel madams, prisoners, Chairmen, mothers, a High Court Judge, actors, and many more.
The abused, the rejected, the minority, the dreamers, the workers, the leaders ... People with hope and no hope, people who have achieved and those who have failed, people who look back and reflect on their lives and those who are just starting their journeys.
I write to spread the word, and hopefully, tell a story which hasn’t been told. Who knows; once that story reaches the ears of someone else, it may just change their lives for the better.
